June 14th Follow the dismantling of the largest research reactor
Follow the work of breaking down Denmark's largest research reactor DR3 from the former Test Centre Risø. Our task is to clean the former experimental area on the Risø Peninsula to the "green field" – i.e. to remove radioactivity and chemicals so that in the future the area can be used without restrictions. The DR3 reactor is one of the projects.
V We are now engaged in the second phase of work on dismantling and dismantling (= decommissioning) DR3, which is the largest research reactor that Denmark has had. In the first phase, all the reactor's peripheral piping systems, cooling installations, electrical systems, etc. were dismantled.
Follow our surveillance camera here while we're in the process of removing the internal parts and breaking down the reactor block. In the middle is the thick steel plate, which protects against the heavy radiation from the interior of the experimental reactor. The hall itself is safe to walk around in, but all employees must wear dosimeters that measure the current radiation.
Updated October 8, 2013: Our timelapse video now covers approximately 12 months of work from summer 2012 to summer 2013.
