Aug. 7 Minister Visits " Danish Decommissioning " at Risø

Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, visited Danish Decommissioning.

On Thursday, Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, visited the Danish Institute for Energy Research ( Danish Decommissioning ) at Risø.

During the visit, the directors of Dansk Dekommissionering presented the organization’s responsibilities regarding decommissioning, as well as the receipt, processing, and safe storage of radioactive waste.

During the tour, the minister visited, among other places, DR 3, Denmark’s largest reactor, which is currently being decommissioned. There, she was shown, among other things, the diamond-tipped wires used to cut the shielding around the former reactor into smaller pieces.

The tour also included visits to two of our radioactive waste storage facilities, as well as the site where the New Upgraded Storage Facility (NOL) is to be built.

In addition, information was provided on plans for the management and storage of radioactive waste in both the short and long term, including how Danish Decommissioning contributes to public safety through the safe and responsible handling of radioactive materials.
