Well-attended open house

The turnout was overwhelming when Danish Decommissioning hosted an open house and information meeting on Monday, June 18th. More than 150 citizens from Roskilde accepted the invitation, filling Risø's largest auditorium to capacity.

AAfter a brief presentation of the company's work, particularly the management of radioactive waste, it was time to experience the waste firsthand. A short walk through Risø's beautiful natural surroundings led to the area where, among other things, the waste storage facilities are located. The numerous visitors were divided into six groups, each assigned a DD employee as a guide for the tour.

As raindrops began to fall, the last visitors were returning to the shelter of the auditorium. Here, the second part of the event – the information meeting – commenced, focusing on the Danish Parliament's recent decision regarding a long-term solution for radioactive waste.

Following the three presentations, the microphones were passed among inquisitive citizens. The questions covered a wide range – from Denmark's international obligations and the possibility of exporting the waste, to Risø's geology, the monitoring of the storage facilities, and the cleanup of the peninsula.

When the questions subsided after approximately one hour, the event concluded with a promise from DD's Director Ole Kastbjerg Nielsen to host another open house when there is new information to share about the upcoming storage facility, which will house all waste until at least 2073.
