Open and full house

The turnout was overwhelming when Danish Decommissioning hosted an open house and information session on Monday 18 June. More than 150 Roskilde citizens had accepted and filled Risø's largest auditorium to the last seat.

E After a brief presentation of the company's work, not least the management of the radioactive waste, it was time to experience the waste in reality. A short walk in Risø's beautiful nature led to the area, where, among other things, the waste stocks are located. The many visitors were divided into six groups, each DD employee as a guide on the tour.

When the raindrops began to fall, the last visitors were on their way back to the auditorium shelter. This is where the second part of the event – the information meeting – where the focus was on the recent decision of the Folketing on a long-term solution for the radioactive waste.

After the three presentations, the microphones went on the run between the citizens of the public. The questions were wide ranging – from Denmark's international obligations and the possibility of exporting the waste, to Risø's geology, the monitoring of storage facilities and the clean-up on the peninsula.

After about an hour, when the question was exhausted, the event ended with a promise from DD 's director Ole Kastbjerg Nielsen to keep an open house again when there is news to talk about the upcoming storage facility, which will house all the waste until at least 2073.
