02 Oct Danish Decommissioning submits the project documentation for the final repository
Danish Decommissioning has submitted a project proposal for a final repository for Denmark’s radioactive waste. The project proposal provides a technical assessment of how the work on the project’s next phases can be organized.
DanskDekommissionering has submitted a project proposal for a final repository for Denmark’s radioactive waste to the Danish Agency for Civil Security. The submission is in accordance with Dansk Dekommissionering’s goals and results plan.
The project framework is a preliminary working document that provides a technical basis for further dialogue and refinement of the project in collaboration with authorities and other stakeholders.
The project framework describes the steps proposed to implement the Danish Parliament’s decision to establish a final repository for Danish radioactive waste by 2073 at the latest. The framework focuses specifically on the measures that must be implemented first in order to begin the actual work. However, the project framework is not a decision regarding the location, type of repository, or final organization of the work.
“We have now taken the first step in the work that will span many years to lay the foundation for a final repository for Denmark’s radioactive waste. A unanimous Folketing has decided that Denmark must establish a long-term solution for the waste, and the project framework is an initial proposal for how the work can be organized. We are now looking forward to the upcoming process, during which the project will be refined in close collaboration with the agency and other stakeholders,” says Steen Nordstrøm, director of Danish Decommissioning.
The project basis is part of the effort to establish the technical, organizational, and financial framework for a long-term solution for Denmark’s radioactive waste. It will be further developed and quality-assured in consultation with relevant authorities as part of the ongoing work.
