03 Jul Authorization for decision-making on intermediate storage
Danish Decommissioning has been granted DKK 1.1 million to prepare a decision-making basis for the Danish Parliament regarding the establishment of a Danish interim storage facility for low- and intermediate-level waste. This will be done in cooperation with GEUS and the Danish Radiation Protection Institute (SIS).
V Our tasks will be a description of how the establishment of the intermediate storage facility can be carried out, among other things in relation to storage units, safety criteria and safety analyses, as well as operation of the intermediate storage facility.
The appropriation is intended to finance danish decommissioning costs to, among other things, review possible building types and practical conditions related to construction, and the cost of plant and operation over a 50-100-year period, as well as to describe how an assessment of the risk of leakage/dispersion of radioactive material from the storage facility can be carried out. In preparing the basis for decision-making, we will visit and exchange international experience with, among others, the Netherlands, where an intermediate storage facility has been constructed for 100 years.
The decision-making basis is due to be completed at the beginning of 2014. The placement of any intermediate stock will not be processed in the context of our work on the basis of the decision.
