12 Mar Fire in Operational Facility Last Week

On the morning of Tuesday, March 3rd, a fire occurred in Building 211, within the cell where the bitumen facility is located.

TThe facility was operational, and the fire was likely triggered by the heating band around the pipe, where the hot liquid asphalt is conveyed to the drums. The fire department arrived promptly, and the fire was extinguished within minutes. There was no release or contamination with radioactive material. No breach of the facility occurred, and thus no release of radioactive material took place.

In close dialogue with relevant authorities, a thorough assessment of the situation and the facility will be conducted. The facility will only be recommissioned if approval is granted by the nuclear regulatory authorities.
