30 Sep International Expertise for Long-Term Solution
An international professional group must advise Denmark in relation to a possible intermediate storage facility solution.
Danish Decommissioning has invited four international experts to provide consultation for the supplementary investigations into a Danish interim storage solution.
The international expert group consists of:
- Ewoud Verhoef (COVRA, the organisation behind the Netherlands' long-term interim storage facility)
- Johan Swahn (Miljöorganisationernes Kärnavfallsgranskning, Sweden)
- Fredrik Vahlund (Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB, Sweden)
- Trond Eivind Bøe (Institutt for Energiteknikk, Norway)
The group's first task is to comment on the sub-report that Danish Decommissioning received from COWI A/S in August, concerning the safety, operation, and economics of an interim storage solution. The sub-report and the international experts' comments on it will be discussed in detail at the next meeting on October 14th in Kontaktforum, where, among others, citizen groups, municipalities, and environmental organisations are represented.
In the coming months, the international expert group will comment on the comprehensive report being prepared by Danish Decommissioning and the National Geological Surveys of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) on the safety, operation, economics, and siting criteria for an interim storage solution. The comprehensive report is expected to be submitted to the Minister for Higher Education and Science before the end of 2016.
