The Environmental Protection Agency has now identified the issues to be included in a report on the environmental impact of a new upgraded waste storage facility.
DDanish Decommissioning wishes to establish and operate a new, upgraded storage facility for Denmark's radioactive waste - a project covered by Annex 1 of the Environmental Assessment Act. As the developer, we must therefore prepare an environmental impact report before the Danish EPA can assess whether the project can be carried out. The report describes the effects of the project on the environment and the mitigation measures needed to limit any damage.
On the basis of an idea paper prepared by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, all citizens were able to submit their ideas and proposals on topics to be addressed in the report between 2 December 2019 and 2 January 2020. A total of four responses were received.
Similarly, our neighbouring countries Sweden, Norway, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and England have had the opportunity to comment on the project in a so-called Espoo consultation. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has received a request from Sweden and Germany for participation in the environmental assessment process. At the same time, Sweden has submitted a number of comments on the project. Poland does not wish to participate, but to be informed on an ongoing basis.
The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has dealt with the received inquiries from both home and abroad and has summarised the conclusions in a demarcation statement. This sets the framework for the topics to be included in the environmental impact report that the Danish Decommisiment is now about to prepare. Once the report is available, an eight-week consultation period will be announced.
