A well-deserved medal

Kari Bjørn Fernstrøm has today received the Queen's Medal of Merit for 40 years of loyal service. He was presented with it by the Director of Danish Decommissioning at a small ceremony.

KKari has been employed at the Risø Test Facility since 15 January 1979. On 15 March 2003, he was transferred to Danish Decommissioning. This means that all 40 years in the service of the State have been at Risø.

The recruitment started at Risø Central Workshop, where Kari as a trained machinist helped to manufacture experimental equipment for the DR 3 reactor. Later, Kari was employed as a research technician and reactor operator at DR 3, thereby working on the operation of the experimental equipment he had manufactured earlier. From 1985 to 1996 he was part of risø's fire brigade and then became part of the technical guard, a task he continues to carry out.

In awarding the Merit Medal, the processing has been extra long due to the Corona shutdown. So the 40 years are now approaching rather 42 years of faithful service.
