Work environment report 2023

Danish Decommissioning's occupational health and safety report for 2023 has been published, and here you can read more about the occupational health and safety results for 2023

In Danish Decommissioning (DD), work environment is a key area that is of great importance for both planning and execution of tasks. And in a company like DD, with a diverse employee group and task portfolio, there are many different elements that together make up the working environment.

Specifically, the work with ionizing radiation means that the occupational health and safety report distinguishes between conventional work environment and health physics work environment.

A distinction we find necessary and meaningful, partly because it makes comparisons with other workplaces easier, but also makes it easier to read and understand the report.

Conclusions of the report
The 2023 Health and Safety Report describes the health and safety milestones for 2023.

A selection of these include holding a major emergency preparedness exercise in 2023, initiating a detailed action plan based on the 2022 APV, conducting an environmental screening, first aid training and much more.

The full list can be read in the 2023 Health and Safety Report.

For 2023, 4 goals were set, of which 3 were achieved.

Target 1: No conventional occupational accidents (not achieved)
Target 2: No planned work tasks resulting in effective radiation doses exceeding 1 mSv/month (achieved)
Target 3: No planned work tasks resulting in extremity doses exceeding 5 mSv/week. (achieved)
Objective 4: No planned work activities resulting in the spread of radioactive contamination outside work areas or to areas that are not health physically classified (achieved).

The conclusion of the 2023 health and safety report states that goal 1 was not met, as there were 6 work-related accidents in DD in 2023. It also states that "the number of days that the injured persons were unable to work did not exceed six calendar days". - Working Environment Report 2023, p. 14.

In other words, the 6 workplace accidents were not associated with longer absences.

Last year, this figure was 5 workplace accidents, one of which resulted in long-term absence.
