Danish Decommissioning secondary schools to visit

As part of Research Day 2026, Danish Decommissioning is opening Danish Decommissioning to students and teachers from upper secondary schools and 9th-grade classes.

Howdo you work safely with radioactive materials? And how do you apply physics, chemistry, and mathematics in practice when handling Denmark’s radioactive waste on a daily basis?

Students and teachers will be able to experience this firsthand when we open the gates to Risø this year and invite them inside for a series of special tours during Research Day 2026.
The tours are specifically designed for students and teachers from secondary schools and 9th-grade classes.

We offer a rare glimpse into how we use physics, chemistry, and mathematics in practice to manage Denmark’s radioactive waste—safely and professionally.

The event will be held five times:
April 20–24, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday)

The event includes:

Presentation:
A science staff member will discuss practical work with radioactivity and demonstrate how subjects such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics are used every day at DD.

Tour Participants will get a unique look inside the storage facilities where Denmark’s radioactive waste is kept—and gain insight into how safety, technology, and science go hand in hand in our work.
