19 Mar Abundant birdlife in view
Risø's peaceful and shallow surroundings attract abundant birdlife. On Sunday, March 18, members of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation were able to enjoy the sight of the many diverse bird species.
NNanna Høegh Wenzell, an operations engineer at DD, also holds the position of vice-chairperson for the Roskilde branch of the Danish Society for Nature Conservation. Last year, local members were given an indoor tour of Nanna's workplace, whereas the event on March 18 featured an outdoor birdwatching excursion.
The air was cold and clear as the 15 participants cycled to selected locations offering particularly good views. Supplementing their own binoculars, participants could closely observe the winged creatures through a telescope brought by ornithologist Sten Asbirk. That Sunday, the peninsula presented a remarkable array of bird species, including wigeon, goldeneye, garganey, whooper swan, merganser (both common and red-breasted), coots, white-fronted geese, buzzards, oystercatchers, black-headed gulls, and indeed, a white-tailed eagle in solitary majesty.
