May 16 Proposal for a long-term solution adopted
On 15 May the Folketing unanimously adopted Resolution B 90 on a long-term solution for Denmark's radioactive waste.
F Proposal B-90 went unchanged from first to second and final third reading. All 107 in the Chamber voted in favour and none against. The adoption of B-90 means, inter alia:
- That in the short term an upgrade of Dansk Dekommissionering's existing storage facilities on the Risø Peninsula through the construction of a new storage facility. In addition, the purpose and tasks of The Danish Decommissioning Committee are clarified.
- In the medium term, studies of Denmark's geology are carried out at a depth of up to 500 metres in order to identify possible sites for a deep geological end depot. A localisation of the final repository can then be recommended based on a series of analyses of geological, physical and socio-economic conditions.
- That a thorough dialogue will be initiated with municipalities with relevant survey sites, which will be invited to express an interest in entering into a partnership on the analysis work.
- That the possibilities for an international solution for the most radioactive part of the waste, the so-called special waste, will continue to be explored.
- That in the long term, a deep geological final repository ready for use by 2073.
