13 Dec Finland Joins Expert Group
The expert group advising Denmark on the long-term solution for our radioactive waste has been expanded with an additional member.
DDD has now entered into an agreement with Posiva, the organisation responsible for Finland's radioactive waste and its final disposal, for them to join as an additional advisor in our international expert group. The group has previously consisted of experts from four organisations:
- COVRA, Netherlands
- Environmental Organisations' Nuclear Waste Scrutiny, Sweden
- Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Co. AB, Sweden
- Institute for Energy Technology, Norway
“We are pleased that Posiva has agreed to provide us with expert assistance. Finland already possesses experience in the disposal of low- and intermediate-level waste and is concurrently the most advanced country globally in developing a geological repository for spent fuel,” states DD’s Director Ole Kastbjerg Nielsen, adding: “The Dutch, Swedish, and Norwegian experiences in managing radioactive waste have proven highly beneficial thus far, and we now look forward to also leveraging Finnish expertise.”
