Danish Decommissioning - a organisation in development

Better cohesion, greater professional sparring opportunities and even stronger internal collaboration are just some of the keywords behind the new organization in Danish Decommissioning.

For many, December 1,2024 is the official start of Christmas in Denmark, but it is also the date of Danish Decommissioning's new redesigned organisation.

A organisation that is continuously evaluated and therefore also under development in recent years, as the tasks and scope of the projects are also evaluated and developed.

From 2 to 3 in the Executive Board
Danish Decommissioning In 2021, organisation underwent a major organizational change, resulting in a consisting of 9 units and an executive board consisting of 2 functions, a director and a technical director.

The first change to this organization came into effect in May 2024, when the Executive Board was expanded with a Director of Radiation Protection, a news you can read more about here - Danish Decommissioning expands the Executive Board with Director of Radiation Protection - Danish Decommissioning.

From 9 to 7 units
The next major change came in September when, after a long internal evaluation at
Danish Decommissioning, it was decided to merge the units Laboratories (LAB) and Radiation Protection (STR) into a single unit called Radiation Protection (STR).

LAB, which primarily consisted of health assistants whose task is to carry out the daily radiation monitoring of the area, and STR, which consisted of health physicists who carry out the radiation calculations and planning tasks, were now combined in the same unit.

This organizational change is based on the fact that the two units are both primarily concerned with radiation protection, and can therefore achieve both professional and developmental benefits by being part of a single department. It is also intended to increase efficiency and competence in the work with radiation protection.

This merger also resulted in Danish Decommissioning hiring a new unit manager for the unit. A unit manager who will work closely with the Director of Radiation Protection.

The latest organizational change will take effect on 1 December 2024, when the two units Management Secretariat (LS) and Finance, IT and Service (EIS) will be merged into a single unit

The reason for this organizational change is also to bring together two units that already have a high degree of collaboration in the same unit. This means that Communication, HR, Legal, Finance, IT and Service are now all in the same unit.

At the same time, this means that the work with final disposal, which was previously in the Management Secretariat (LS), now moves to the unit for Development & Strategic Waste Planning (UDA), and that all tasks regarding long-term waste solutions are now gathered in one place.

Equipped for the future
Ole Kastbjerg Nielsen, Director of
Danish Decommissioning, sees the ongoing organizational changes as a natural consequence of the development of Danish Decommissioning's tasks and a strong will to evaluate and optimize.

"When we make these organizational changes, both in the form of minor and major adjustments, it is generally an expression of our constant focus on whether our organization can be optimized.
This is both in relation to the tasks we solve, but also in relation to our employees' skills and development. Both our tasks and our organisation are constantly evolving, and this requires an ongoing evaluation of both our competence needs and strategy, but also, as in this case, of our organization."
